Challenging the Lies About Russia and the War in Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

Fighting lies is a tiring business, but it must be done. My recent public debate with Andrij Dobriansky is a real oddity because there have been few opportunities like this during the past 18 months where critics of NATOs policy towards Russia could challenge the lies of the Ukrainian and Western propagandists. I only scratched the surface with Mr. Dobrianskys mendacity.

The propaganda lies churned out by U.S. and British intelligence, which are plentiful and audacious, cover the gamut e.g., Putin has a terminal illness; Putin is weak and hanging be a thread; Ukraine is advancing steadily in its counter offensive; Russia is isolated; Russias economy is collapsing; Russian conscripts are being dragooned against their will to join the army; Russian prisoners are being coerced to join paramilitary forces and fight on the front lines; the morale of the Russian Army is collapsing; Russias Generals are incompetent; Russia is suffering more casualties than Ukraine; and Russia is a colonial imperialist.

I want to touch on the ridiculous claim by Dobriansky that Russia is guilty of colonialism in Africa. For those of you who watched the video of my exchange with this gentleman, you saw that he declined my challenge to name just one country in Africa that was colonized by Russia, controlled and exploited for years. He could not respond because Russia is not guilty of this defamatory accusation.

Here is a break out of the Empires and colonies in 1920 following WWI:

You will note that Russia stayed home. It was not romping across the globe, snatching up territories and planting its flag.

The reality for Africa is the one region in the world that has suffered the most from the colonial exploitation of European nations for more than 200 years. France and Britain were the two big players, controlling almost two-thirds of Africa. But other European states also staked claims over the people and territory of countries across the African continent Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Spain.

It is true that many African nations actively participated in enslaving and selling other Africans to the Europeans and Americans. And it is true that Britain tried to put a stop to the international slave selling business with passage of the Slave Act in 1807. But that one act of decency does not erase the injustice and pillaging of the African colonies by the Brits during the 19th and early 20th Century. The same holds true for the other European colonizers who used the African nations as their personal piggy ba...

Putin Promises Five Percent of Ukrainian Grain Supply from Russian Occupied Ukraine for Free to Six African Countries "IndyWatch Feed Politics.us"

95% of Ukrainian grain was exported by way of the Black Sea in 2020. Half of it was exported to MENA (Middle East-North Africa) countries. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/2/17/infographic-russia-ukraine-and-the-global-wheat-supply-interactive

Putin steals his neighbors land and grain and then promises 5% for his friends while keeping 95% for himself. The 95% will sell for more since hes destroying Ukraines storage and means of export.

The harvest of wheat, alone, in Russian occupied parts of Ukraine, is expected to be approximately 4.25 million tonnes, meaning that Putins offer of free grain is only about 5%. Putin has offered 25-50,000 tonnes of free grain each to Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Central African Republic and Eritrea in the next few months. July and August is when Ukraines winter wheat is harvested.

During the Africa-Russia Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to replace Ukrainian grain exports to Africa on both a commercial and aid basis to help avoid a global food crisis. We will be ready to provide Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Central African Republic and Eritrea with 25-50,000 tonnes of free grain each in the next three to four months, Putin said. These are all Russian allies, except Somalia which is suffering a severe humanitarian crisis. See: Russia recently withdrew from a deal under which Ukrainian grain exports passed through the Black Sea to reach global markets, including Africa. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66333403

Class Power on Zero-Hours (excerpt) "IndyWatch Feed Politics.eu"

To coincide with Danny Hayward's review of Class Power on Zero-Hours we asked the AngryWorkers for permission to publish two excerpts from their recent book

Greenford tube station. People wearing Sports Direct polyester with bags under their eyes. Groups of youngsters in safety boots, the bins overflowing with energy drinks and fags, skunk in the air. Lunch break at the Wincanton warehouse. Goofing around. Who cares about zero-hours contracts and the fucking pick-rate? On the wall, stickers of Warsaw ultras. Dozens of handwritten room to let ads in shop window, most of them in Polish, Hindi, Tamil. Room only for vegetarians. Probably Gujaratis. Ugly rows of inflamed bay windows staring onto the North Circular. We share a room now. Next door the landlady, her husband, who used to work as a model in Mumbai and now sells sofas in Wembley, and their screaming newborn. Upstairs the Romanians. And a Bulgarian who we only discover after two months because he works nights. The Polish guys next door smoke weed and then practice boxing or target shooting with their crossbow. They help us split wood, barefoot. They look tough with their pet snake, but love Shakira. Their landlady the woman who signed the rent contract is a single mum from Katowice who drives buses out of Acton depot. She said the atmosphere got sour after the referendum. Hostile. This is the suburb. Hardly anyone goes central, ever. Working, having some cans, cooking dhal for the family, working more, unloading, packing, sending all kinds of shit to the rest of Babylon. All coming from somewhere further east. Biding the time here in weekly pay instalments. Rent hikes, the pound drops and thats that. In the meantime we stick it out with each other, learn some Somali from Abdi, get some cheap cigarettes from Pawel and have a laugh with Jyoti, on our break in the plastic-chaired canteen of this or that tin-walled hell-hole.

Introduction

In January 2014 we chose to move to a working class neighbourhood on the fringes of west London. We felt an urgent need to break out of the cosmopolitan bubble and root our politics in working class jobs and lives. We wanted to pay more than just lip service to the classic slogan, the emancipation of the working classes must be conquered by the working classes themselves. Over the next six years, comrades joined us and we worked in a dozen different warehouses and factories. We organised slowdowns on shop floors, rocked up on bosses and landlords doors with our solidarity network, and banged our heads against brick walls as shop stewards in the bigger unions. We wrote up all our successes, as we...

Bruce White // Lindsey Graham Just Said That The Dem Congresswomen Deserved The Racist Attacks Because They Don't Support Trump "IndyWatch Feed 1stpeople"

Lindsey Graham Just Said That The Dem Congresswomen Deserved The Racist Attacks Because They Don't Support Trump: I really do believe that if youre a Somali refugee who likes Trump, hes not going to say go back to Somalia,' Graham said, apparently referencing Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), according to NBC News.

A racist says go back to Somalia because youre a Somalian or youre a Muslim or whatever, thats just the way he is. More narcissism than anything else.

Graham was asked about his remarks and claimed that he was making a joke, adding that he didnt like the idea of telling anyone to go back to the place theyre from.

I think you can make the case that hes a narcissist more than you can make hes a racist, the South Carolina Republican said. I mean, I dont like the idea of telling somebody whos an American citizen to go home, this is their home.
